Church sets the record straight on Proposition 8
Since its involvement with numerous other faiths in the Protect Marriage Coalition, which worked to pass Proposition 8 in California, the Church has worked to correct several erroneous media reports about its role and its donations. The Church addressed several issues through a news report on lds.org, including the following:
Claims that the church filed only one report of its contributions before January 2009, or did not report all its contributions to the Protect Marriage Coalition, are erroneous. The church filed all necessary reports over the course of the campaign in compliance with California sate law.
In fact, the Church filed seven contribution reports throughout the campaign.
The Church's donations were all in-kind (non-monetary) and totaled $189,903.58. They included travel expenses, compensated staff time and audiovisual production services.
The value of the church's in-kind contribution is less than one half of one percent of the total funds (approximately $40 million) raised for the "Yes on 8" campaign. The Church did not make any cash contributions.
Proposition 8 defines marriage as being between a man and a woman, and passed with over 52 percent of the popular vote in California last November."
I took this from the LDS Living Magazine and read it on lds.org.
Interesting how Satan keeps stirring up the population against the Church....
