Flowing with the List which isn't on iPad

I like writing, I really do. I sometimes put it before housework and family and other responsibilities I should work on. But I always justified that I was 'working' when I was writing. And I am.
Then why did I feel like a failure? Everyday I looked forward to writing but I didn't feel I was really getting done what I needed to get done.
So I decided to a daily list.

This might be construed as a New Year's Resolution which I am adamantly against. New Year's goals are usually long range goals, therefore, they're overwhelming.
But I digress.

Usually, every night I write about 6 chores on my list. Sometimes less if they're bigger tasks, sometimes more tasks if they are smaller.

This is a sample list:
1. Laundry
2.Arbitration
3. Unload dishwasher
4. Dust piano
5. Edit WWI story

Because laundry is a bigger task I only gave myself 5 tasks.
I've been able to accomplish everything on my list by lunchtime, sometimes sooner, leaving a couple of hours to write.
It's heavenly.
My day seems to be flowing better. I'm getting more done.
I don't feel like I'm floundering around or as much.
And I feel very blessed as I work for and serve my family on a daily basis.
Why didn't I do the list thing before? I think because I put too many tasks on my list or tasks that were too big.

But dusting the piano is small and easy and makes me feel like I've accomplished something. I feel like I've accomplished more at home everyday.
My days are better and by the end of the day, I'm ready for a good-night's rest.
Most days are better than others.

Here's my list today:
1. Work on SciFi story
2. Go to parent teacher with child #3
3. Girl's night out

Totally agree. Lists are the bomb. I felt the same way and have started doing the list and it is Heavenly! I feel like a way better wife and mother now and I find that I do have time to do "me" stuff.

I am totally a list person. I have lists for the day, lists for the week, and lists for big projects I have to eventually get to. It's such a great feeling to cross things off!
