On Men Wearing Skirts and Flip Flops

We got to visit with our nephew, Brook, this weekend. He got back from America Samoa a few days before his brother was married in the Manti Temple.
He told us about the food there (lots of veggies, fruit and fish), the beautiful ocean that he couldn't get in, the amazing people and the scary natural disasters he experienced. Brook helped at the hospital after the tsunami hit. He said it was hard to see so much death.

He told a story of a newbie missionary who couldn't speak the language yet and didn't know what the people were shouting as they ran past his apartment. He finally got his companion out of the shower and asked what was going on. The native comp listened then shouted "run!" as he pulled on shorts and a t-shirt. They both made it to a tree and started climbing, the greenie in the lead.
As his comp climbed he looked down and saw three small children running and knew there was no way they would make it to higher ground. The comp jumped down and grabbed each child then tossed them to the greenie. As the last child was caught and the comp climbed up, water rushed in. It was high enough to reach their legs. They were barely able to save the children, but they did.

What an amazing experience for this young man. He came back more mature and stronger for his two year experience. Is it any wonder why the Lord expects men (and women) to go on a mission?
