Sense of community

I'm not from this area. But we've lived here long enough now that my children feel like they are from here. We've gone to different sporting/plays/concerts to support not only our kids but the friends and neighbors around us.
Sports seems to draw a big crowd. Why is that? Maybe it's because we can cheer loudly and rambunctiously.  Can't really do that for a concert. :)
But sports! You can bring a cow bell to football!
Football.
It's not only about the school or the parents or the boosters or the players or the refs or even the score.
It's about all of them.
It makes us a community. Unity in one cause, at least for one night.
Because in the end what we remember is that we were there for the wins and losses and feeling of being united for one night.
We all want to feel that way. It doesn't have to be a sporting event.
Family night.
Church services.
Dinner.
Eating out with friends.
Having a neighborhood BBQ.
These are all ways to feel involved, part of something bigger than ourselves.
