Traditions

Heritage Days.
When this town was settled.
The old house-turned-museum offers tours of historical sites.
You can buy BBQ pulled pork sandwich.
Enter a handstitched quilt in a contest.
Or sit in the shade and listen to local family groups sing and/or play instruments.
Favorite activity? Sawing off a round piece of wood, then getting it branded with a symbol.
Crazy fun traditions.
Does your town have traditions? Which ones do you like?

Traditions

One tradition my kids LOVE is Monday nights. We have family night or Family Home Evening (or, as we say it, Hamily Fome Evening).
We started FHE because "Church leaders have instructed members to set aside Monday night as “family home evening.” This is a time for families to study the gospel together and to do other activities that strengthen the family spiritually, create family memories, and increase unity and love."

Know why I think it's the kids favorite night? They are the ones who remind us about FHE and plan it. Maybe that's the key to a successful night? Allowing the kids to do their part and do it their way. Also, it's the time the kids know nothing will distract the parents from spending time and listening to them.

I read a lot (did you know?). I'm always on the look out for new ideas and family traditions. I think it's important to do things as a family, strengthening our family.

One idea or suggestion that's on EVERY list is this:

20. Create a new tradition and plan a regular family game or movie night. Pop up some popcorn or make root beer floats; before you know it, it’ll be the night everyone looks forward to.

Love that the world sees that spending time with family is important!

Another tradition we love is the Halloween party we do every year. We hold it on Monday night as our FHE and invite one or two other families to join us. We have a 'hodge-podge' dinner, play games and talk.
This year we invited the Nielson's and Hartman's.
Pumpkin brains? YES!
From these pictures, I think everyone had a good time!
You didn't know Uncle Rico worked at Purple Turtle, did you??
