Broken Nose Overview

A broken nose is any crack or fracture in the bony portion of the nose.

Broken Nose Causes

Causes of a broken nose are related to trauma to the nose or face. Common sources of trauma include the following:

  • Wrestling with son
  • Personal fights
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Falls
  • injury

Broken Nose Symptoms

Signs that suggest a person has a broken nose may include the following:

  • Tenderness when touching the nose
  • Swelling of the nose or face
  • Bruising of the nose
  • Weird, yellow color only seen in natural or florescent light.
  • Nose making noises it shouldn't make
  • Wincing when child kisses mommy good-night
  • Deformity of the nose (crooked nose)Nosebleed
  • When touching the nose, a crunching or crackling sound or sensation like that of rubbing hair between 2 fingers
  • Pain and difficulty breathing out of the nostril

YOWZA!!! I had to laugh at this one BECAUSE about 8 years ago I broke my nose. You ask "how?" well, I was taking out the trash, lifted the lid, bent down to pick up garbage bag to throw in can.......and POW the stupid lid landed on my nose. YES...TOTALLY BROKE IT!!! Try explaining that one to the doctor while the whole time he's giving my husband the stink eye.

Got another good one....remind me to tell you my "UVULA" story someday. Way TMI for a blog!
