1940's~Waddya know?

I don't know much about the forties other than my parents were born in 1943. So I googled some fashions etc from the forties to share with you today in recognition of the 1940 Census going live.
(And thanks to Mommy Mormon Blog for giving the heads up!).

Hats!Hats!Everywhere! My Grandma Violet Earl loved hats. I inherited a few of them, mostly purple ones. And gloves.

(A few we still use today)
Take a powder – to leave
Fuddy-Duddy – old-fashioned person
Gobbledygook – double talk, long speech
Fat-head – stupid or foolish person
Chrome-dome – word for a bald headed man
Eager beaver – enthusiastic helper
Armored heifer – canned milk~LOVE this one!

Circa WW2 the women wore great structured suits, seamed nylons hose(when they could get them), had terrific wavy hair and RED lipstick. So classy! Men wore double breasted suits with hats. And the cars were big, roundish, heavy and nearly indestructible. I think we should bring some of this back.
