Traditions ~ Halloween Edition

We have a few traditions as a Lovell family.
Like going to the Lovell Christmas party.
Or watching Rendan run under the local waterfall. On Thanksgiving. (I just decided that one).
Halloween Hodge Podge Dinner.
You should have seen his Spock Bangs on Halloween! Hilarious!

Every year we invite one or two families to come share our Halloween tradition with us. The only criteria is that it is a different family every time. No repeats (The only repeat we had was the Arnold's. Not sure why but there you have it.).

This year we invited Twede's. Garth and I have known the Twede's for years. Garth first met Darren at UVCC (which is now UVU). Bea is Darren's wife. I guess we get the credit for matching making :)

The other family we invited moved in across the street from us: The Summerill's. You might notice the mother and wife Erin Summerill is absent from the photos. Yeah, she forgot about her photog class and didn't show up until almost the end.

At our party we eat dinner. There is a brown bag on each plate with strips of paper.

You choose two pieces of paper with a code word then go to the kitchen to match it with the food.
Every one has to finish the course together before they can draw out two more strips. The kids have a hard time with this part; they don't want to wait.

You may or may not draw out utensils.

Then afterwards, we eat dessert and the adults sit around and be boring by talking and the kids play Just Dance and Halloween Bingo.

Then go home tired, full and happy.

Halloween and Pumpkins and Partay

I love Halloween, the fun part of Halloween.
I like the parties and the get togethers and the dressing up.

Photo courtesy of Dr. Arnold's contest. Don't you love the minion? And the pumpkin too

And the pumpkins.
Now that our family is older, our carved pumpkins may turn out extravagant.
Or painted.

I think we're getting tired of cleaning out the pumpkin guts.

New Zealanders eat lots of pumpkin, from what I hear. Like, every meal there's pumpkin chips or some sort of yummy side dish.
They think we are strange to make pumpkin into pumpkin pie.
Squirrel.

We also go to parties and trunk-or-treat and eat too much sugar.
But the best part?

Costumes!

Minecraft Steve

The boys named themselves The Real Meal

Get to bed (of course, after you read that chapter)

It's hard to angry at kids for not going to bed when they are reading!

Happy birthday!

Mountains

After Fall Break, as with any family vacation, there is a mountain of laundry to do.
When this family goes camping, blankets and towels and clothes all need washed.

At the time is annoying only because I'm usually stuck with the task. But if I don't, it might take weeks to get done (seriously, ask my oldest how long it takes her).
I know what you're thinking: wimp! That's not much laundry. Alas! You can't see all the towels on the table and all the blankets on the couch and still washing/drying.
I'm happy to say everything was finished and put away by bedtime. Of the same day.

We went to the mountains in Marysvale and rode ATVs all over those durn mountains.

But when I see this:

And this:

This was fun:

And I remember this (which was the best part of the whole trip IMHO. Total family alone time):

I'm don't mind doing all these:

General Conference Ideas

I really love General Conference. There was a time I didn't appreciate the amazing learning experience at the feet of apostles and prophets.
Now, I have a notebook just for conference weekends where I can write down thoughts and quotes and inspiration. I've tried to set the example for my children by sitting through all sessions and taking notes. One rule I had when they were younger was they had to listen to the prophet every time he spoke. Now I expect them to be in the room or in listening range of all speakers.
There are a lot of great ideas on how to get more out of the talks and/or keep the little ones occupied and learning as well.

I found a blog that had a great idea of coming up with a list of questions and posting them on a wall. Then with prayer and listening to conference, finding the answers and writing them down. I love this engaging idea! I think we are going to try it this weekend.

What other ideas are out there?

End of another season

I love summer.
I love the laziness of no routine and sleeping in and eating cereal for dinner.
I love hanging out at the pool and reading and catching some vit D.
I love the longer days.
I love the flowers and birds and butterflies.

Then, about two weeks before school starts, I love the idea of going back to a routine, going to bed a little earlier and eating hot soup for dinner.

Summery pictures...

I know I said I was done posting pics from the Mediterranean but I didn't say anything about other summery pictures.

Provo Beach Resort

I found a coupon for the Beach resort. We played croquet, worked the ropes course, and surfed. I would go again. And if they had a cheap family season pass, I would probably buy it.

HOME by Phillip Phillips

I don't know why this song has been stuck in my head lately. I love it. It reminds me of a loving parent reassuring a child. Or a loving Heavenly Father telling us we are not alone. He is making a home for us to return to. Settle down, it will all be clear.
Don't pay attention to the demons.
Trouble might drag you down.
If you get lost, you can always be found.

Hold on, to me as we go.
As we roll down this unfamiliar road.
And although this wave is stringing us along.
Just know you’re not alone,
Cause I’m going to make this place your home.

Settle down, it'll all be clear.
Don't pay no mind to the demons,
They fill you with fear.
The trouble it might drag you down.
If you get lost, you can always be found.

Just know you’re not alone,
Cause I’m going to make this place your home.

Settle down, it'll all be clear.
Don't pay no mind to the demons,
They fill you with fear.
The trouble it might drag you down.
If you get lost, you can always be found.

Just know you’re not alone,
Cause I’m going to make this place your home.

Settle down, it'll all be clear.
Don't pay no mind to the demons.
They fill you with fear.
The trouble it might drag you down,
If you get lost you can always be found.

just know you're not alone,
Cause I'm gonna make this place your home.

The Tale of the Mom

Don't take your mother into public because she might stuff her mouth full of pretzels, beating the record, and causing others to gag:

Your mother might embarrass you by getting you picked to dance on stage:

Others might see how much your mother loves you.

Irish meet me

My brother meet a cute Irish lass over the Internet.
They met.
Fell in love.
Married.
He has 2 kidlets.
She has 1.
I love to listen to her talk.
Except on the phone because somehow Irish doesn't translate well over the telly.
They live in SD.
We met them in SLC while they were in Utah.
And we met the missionaries that brought her the gospel.
Isn't family great? And eternal. Never forget eternal.
Love you Claire and Jonboy.

Happy Cousins

On one side of the family, SIX cousins were born within three months of each other.
Sometimes I have triplets instead of twins (I'd be okay with that).
